Guidelines for Authors

Educatação e Linguagens Journal is a periodic scientific publication of the Pedagogy and Letters Courses of the State University of Paraná (UNESPAR), Campus de Campo Mourão. It is an online, open access, continuous flow journal that publishes original and unpublished articles from major knowledge areas in Humanities and Linguistics, Literature and Arts, with an emphasis on Education, Linguistics and Literature, resulting from scientific research, as well as book reviews, interviews, and thematic issues.

The following information refers to the Author Guidelines.

1. Scope Appropriateness
Submitted manuscripts must be in strict conformity with its scope. The journal's main focus is the publication of original and unpublished works in the major areas of Humanities and Linguistics, Literature and Arts, with specific emphasis on Education, Linguistics, and Literature.

2. Types of Manuscripts Accepted
The journal accepts manuscripts derived from empirical research, systematic and literature reviews, as well as book reviews, interviews, and thematic issues.

3. Structure and Work Length
Unpublished articles written in Portuguese, English, or Spanish will be accepted, with a length between 15 to 25 pages. The work must contain abstracts in all three languages, each with 150 to 250 words, accompanied by four keywords. Bibliographic references must be included at the end.

4. Initial Article Information
Before each abstract, the article must present: title (in bold and lowercase letters) and subtitle in the three languages, the author's affiliated institution, and country.

5. Title Characteristics
The title must have a maximum of 15 words.

6. Document Formatting
The article must be prepared in a Word text editor, following the formatting specifications: A4 paper, 2.0 cm margins on all sides (top, bottom, right, and left). The font to be used is Arial, size 12, with 1.5 line spacing. The main text must maintain 1.5 cm line spacing and font size 12.

7. Template Use
Submission must be made exclusively through the journal's portal, fully following the guidelines of the Author Guidelines and using the available template.

8. Citation Formatting
Direct quotations with up to 3 lines should be incorporated into the text, within double quotation marks. Direct quotations with four lines or more should be formatted with font size 10 and single line spacing. They must be referenced with the author's surname(s), publication year, and page number.

9. Citation and Reference Standards
In-text citations must follow ABNT NBR 10520:2023 (e.g.: Teixeira (1952, p. 70); (Teixeira, 1952); (Teixeira, 1952, p. 71)). References must be formatted according to ABNT NBR 6023:2018 and must list exclusively the works cited in the text, indicating the full names of authors and any translators.

10. Presentation of Tables and Graphics
Elements such as tables, frames, and figures must have their title (e.g., "Figure 1 – Analysis of results") inserted above, in font size 10 with the first word in bold, while the source (e.g., "Source: the authors") must be positioned below, also in size 10, centered and without bold. Both the element and its captions must be centered, without using anchors, section breaks, or page breaks. In the body of tables and frames, you may use font size 12 or smaller, according to your need.

11. Quality of Images and Figures
All tables, frames, and figures inserted in the article must have high resolution. The frames - and thus illustrations, (drawing, scheme, flowchart, photograph, graph, map, organizational chart, plan, frame, portrait, figure, image, among others), when they exist, must be inserted in the body of the text, complying with the standards of ABNT 6022 of 2018.

12. Explanatory Notes
Avoid notes, but if necessary, they can be: either footnotes or endnotes, according to your choice. And we reinforce that endnotes or footnotes should not be inserted in titles or abstracts or keywords. We suggest inserting notes, after the introduction, in the body of the text.

13. Author Identification
The complete data of the authors (name, title, institution, country, programmatic link, email, and ORCID) must be registered separately in the journal's system, according to the instructions in the available tutorial.

14. Quantity and Profile of Authors
Each article can have up to three authors, preferably integrated into research groups. It is required that at least one holds a doctoral title.

15. Articles Derived from Theses and Dissertations
Articles originating from master's dissertations or doctoral theses can have, at most, two authors.

16. Submission Frequency per Author
Authors and co-authors with works published in the journal must wait one year for a new submission.

17. Taxonomy of Author Contributions
At the end of the article, authors must specify the individual contribution of each co-author, using the "Author Contributions" section according to the Taxonomy of Author Contributions (CRediT) on the Education and Languages Journal website.

18. Remove Authorship Data
Remove all author names, their institutional affiliations, and email addresses from the title page and any other headers or footers. In Word documents, check the Document Properties (in "File" > "Info") and remove any author name and personal information. In the body of the text, replace all citations to your own previous works with: (AUTHOR, YEAR). Highlight this substitution in yellow to facilitate verification by the editors. After article acceptance, authors must provide a non-anonymized version with all authorship information restored for the final publication.

19. International References
Authors must base their literature review and discussion on a set of international references (40%).

20. Current References
The literature review and discussion must include at least 40% of references published within the last five years.

21. Publication and Translation
Approved articles may be published simultaneously in Portuguese, English, and/or Spanish, the responsibility of the authors and optional. If the original work is in Portuguese, authors can send the translated versions, informing the translator's data (name and email), who will be credited at the end of the article. The presentation of a statement signed by the text reviewer is also required.

22. Mandatory Documents for Submission
For your submission to be considered complete and able to advance in the editorial process, it is necessary that the following documents be sent through the system: Anonymized Manuscript in the Official Template; Filled Submission Checklist; Declaration of Conflicts of Interest.

23. Complementary Documents (When Applicable)
Declaration of AI Use: Mandatory if Artificial Intelligence tools were used in any stage of the research or manuscript preparation. Certificate of Ethics Committee Approval: Necessary for research involving humans, animals, or biological materials. Image Use Rights and Licenses: For figures, tables, or other content adapted or reproduced from copyright-protected sources. Translated Versions and Translator Declaration: For submissions that choose multilingual publication.

24. Open Science Policy
Authors are encouraged to publicly share the raw research data that support the results presented in their article, optionally. The data can be deposited in a reliable data repository (e.g., SciELO Data, Zenodo, Figshare) before or at the time of submission. In the manuscript, include a section titled "Data Availability" after the References, containing: the permanent access link (DOI) for the dataset; a brief description of the data made available; the usage license applied to the data. The datasets must be cited in the text and in the References, following the journal's standards.

25. Editorial Process Policy
The submission of the article or review will be initially analyzed by the Editorial Board, which will verify its adequacy to the standards and editorial policy, deciding on forwarding it to blind evaluation or returning it in case of non-compliance with the guidelines. The Board monitors all stages and decides on divergent cases.

26. Peer Review System
Articles will be evaluated through the double-blind system by, at least, two reviewers. Divergences between the reviews may result in the request for new evaluations. Unapproved works will be archived in the system.

27. Article Evaluation Criteria
The evaluation will consider the following aspects: coherence of the title and abstract; internal consistency between objective, theoretical foundation, methodology, and results; quality and originality of the contribution to the area of Education; pertinence of the argumentation and conclusions; timeliness of the bibliography; adequacy to the cultured norm of the language; and scientific relevance.

28. Originality Verification
The originality of the material will be verified through the use of anti-plagiarism software (CopySpider).

29. Disclosure of Reviews
The evaluation results, appreciated by the Editorial Board, will be communicated to the authors immediately after the decision.

30. Submission Tracking
Authors can track all stages of the submission process – from initial receipt to final publication – through the journal's electronic portal.

31. Guidelines for Reviews
Reviews, with a length of three to four pages, must contain the title (bold and lowercase) in the three languages and the complete reference of the reviewed work, and can have up to three authors.

32. Evaluation of Reviews
The analysis of reviews will focus on the clarity, critique, and synthesis of the book's ideas, the contribution to the area of Education, and the adequacy to the journal's standards and the Portuguese language. The evaluation is also double-blind, performed by one reviewer.

33. Ethical Commitments
The journal adopts a strict ethics policy, based on: COPE Code; CNPq Guidelines for scientific integrity; ANPEd materials on research ethics; CNS Resolution No. 510/2016; DORA Declaration and the digital document accessibility standards of the "Zila Mamede" Central Library Accessibility Laboratory.

34. Research with Human Beings
Research with Human Beings must present an approval opinion from the Research Ethics Committee (CEP) and prove the conformity of their studies with the following regulations: CNS Resolution 466/2012 - Ethical guidelines for research with human beings; CNS Resolution 510/2016 - Specific norms for research in Human and Social Sciences.

35. Conflict of Interest Policy
Any relationships - personal, professional, financial, academic, or political - that may influence the impartiality of authors, editors, or reviewers in the preparation, evaluation, or publication of manuscripts are understood as conflicts of interest.

36. Artificial Intelligence Use Policy
The use of Artificial Intelligence (if applicable) must be declared according to the Artificial Intelligence Use Policy on the Education and Languages Journal website.

37. Copyright and Licensing
The copyright of published articles belongs to the journal, which adopts the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International license.
