Abstract

Depression is a highly prevalent mental disorder that can cause suffering and
interfere with the patient's quality of life. Due to its multicausal character, it results
from a combination of different risk factors. It is also known that some factors can be
protective to its development. The aim of this study is to analyze these factors in the
development of the character's depression in the movie Joker, from the perspective
of cognitive behavioral therapy, an evidence-based treatment for depression. The
story involves facts from his childhood, family dynamics, his thoughts, behaviors and
possible beliefs, as well as the therapy to which he was submitted. The themes were
grouped and commented, articulating with what is already available in the literature.
