Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Submissions should be sent directly through the UNESPAR journal submission system, in Word format, with the extension “doc” or “docx”. Files submitted in PDF format will be excluded.
  • Only submissions with proper grammatical and spelling revisions will be accepted; it should be noted that the translation of the title, abstract, and keywords into the foreign language is the responsibility of the author(s). The preferred foreign languages ​​are Spanish and English.
  • The article should be submitted without any author identification in the attached document, as authorship and co-authorship must be indicated when registering the text in the UNESPAR journal system;
  • Filling in biographical data during registration in the system is mandatory and must be between 3 and 10 lines [maximum], containing the author's personal data with a mandatory link to their Lattes curriculum; the biographical text must emphasize the institutional affiliation and the academic and/or artistic background of the author.
  • Texts submitted to the Articles or Essays section must be original and written in one of the following languages: Portuguese, English, or Spanish, and must comply with the editorial guidelines of the InCantare Journal.
  • Articles or essays must be a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 22 pages long, including references and a cover page [with title, abstract, keywords in Portuguese and a foreign language]. Expanded, revised, and updated texts, originally presented and published in the proceedings of scientific and/or artistic events such as congresses, symposia, seminars, meetings, exhibitions, and festivals, will also be accepted, provided that this is mentioned in a mandatory footnote on the first page of the work.
  • Please ensure that the article complies with all the journal’s submission guidelines, especially regarding the authors’ academic qualifications, so that it can proceed to the review process.

Author Guidelines

InCantare Journal is an open-access, interdisciplinary electronic journal with no submission or publication fees, maintained by the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies and Research in Music Therapy (NEPIM/CNPq). The publication aims to disseminate articles, reviews, interviews, and translations produced by PhD holders through two types of calls for papers:

a) Thematic Dossier, with a pre-defined period and theme;

b) Continuous Flow for receiving scientific articles, essays, reviews, interviews, translations, letters to the editor, and descriptive reports, situated in the broad areas of Music Therapy, Music, Education, Health, and related fields, in their most varied forms of disciplinary analysis, thus fostering exchange among researchers from various national and international educational institutions. Articles outside this scope will be automatically rejected.

- Original and unpublished articles that are not being evaluated in any other journal will be accepted;

- After preliminary evaluation by the Editors, articles will be sent to ad hoc reviewers (in a blind peer review system), who may accept, reject, or suggest changes to the author;

- Articles submitted with more than one author are reviewed with the understanding that all listed authors agree with the submission and that the final version of the article is approved by all co-authors;

- The guidelines for preparing articles, which must follow the guidelines of the American Psychological Association (APA), should be consulted before submitting the manuscript.

- InCantare adopts the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

 

 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

Contributions should be submitted directly through the UNESPAR journal submission system, in Word format, with "doc" or "docx" extensions.

 

Articles

a) Only manuscripts submitted with proper grammatical and spelling revisions will be accepted; a) It is important to note that the translation of the title, biography, and abstract into the foreign language is the responsibility of the author(s). The article should be submitted without any identification of authorship.

b) A second file should be submitted with the authorship and co-authorship information in a Word file, with the extensions "doc" or "docx". The biography should be 3 to 4 lines long, containing the author's personal data with a link to their Lattes curriculum and ORCID; the text needs to emphasize the institutional affiliation and academic and/or artistic background.

c) Articles from master's students will be accepted, provided they have been co-authored with their advisors. Since 2020, the journal has reserved a section in each issue for the publication of an article by graduate students, provided they have been co-authored with their advisors.

d) Texts submitted to the articles section must be original and written in one of the following languages: Portuguese, English, or Spanish, and must comply with the editorial guidelines of the InCantare Journal. Texts should be a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 22 pages, including references and title page. Expanded and updated texts, originally presented in conference proceedings, will also be accepted, provided there is mention in a footnote on the first page.

 

Reviews

The journal publishes reviews of books, documentaries, and other formats in the field of music therapy. The text should be 2 to 4 pages long (maximum 2000 words).

 

Interviews

Interviews should be a maximum of 10 pages long, containing a header on the first page with information about the interviewee, the focus, the date, and the location. The name and a brief curriculum vitae of the interviewer should be included in a footnote.

 

Formatting

1. The article should begin with a title page containing:

1.1 Title in bold (with or without subtitle);

1.2 Abstract in the vernacular language (minimum of 150 and maximum of 250 words, in Arial font, size 12, single-spaced, justified, and without indentation);

1.3 Keywords in the vernacular language, separated by periods (up to 5 words that preferably belong to a controlled vocabulary.
Examples: USP Controlled Vocabulary; VCB of the Libraries of the National Congress, BNDigital of the National Library or DeCS (Health Descriptors).

1.4 Title in a foreign language (with or without subtitle);

1.5 Abstract in a foreign language (minimum of 150 and maximum of 250 words, in Arial font, size 12, single-spaced, justified, and without indentation);

1.6 Keywords in a foreign language separated by periods (up to 5 words that preferably belong to a controlled vocabulary;

Direct quotation: If less than 40 words, it should be inserted in the normal sequence of the text between double quotation marks (“), without altering the font size and with 1.5 cm line spacing.

“In the exploratory research model, the following scheme is normally used: (a) bibliographic survey; (b) interviews with people with practical experience in the problem studied; and (c) analysis of examples” (Gil, 2002, p. 41).

 

For direct quotations of 40 or more words: Indent 1.25 cm from the left margin without quotation marks. Maintain the same font size and spacing as the text. Include the author, year, and page number preceded by “p.” for a single page and “pp.” for a single page. If there is a sequence of several pages.

The selection of repertoire for each student should respect criteria such as: interest and motivation for the activity; stage of technical and musical development; individual needs for growth and independence; adequacy between challenges and possibilities; diversification of material and its compatibility with the time foreseen for the activity (Machado, 2013, p. 124).

 

References

References should contain information on all authors, websites, images, unattributed texts, news, and other materials used/cited in the research, so that the material used as a basis for the research can be identified by those who read the article on the UNESPAR periodicals website.

Illustrations

Images should be submitted in JPEG, PNG, or GIF format, laid out within the text file, and submitted as separate supplementary documents during the article submission process. Each image file must have a minimum resolution of 100 and a maximum of 300 dpi.

The use of images in general must be accompanied by a caption stating the source, author's name, location (in the case of photographs), and date.

 

Audiovisual Products

Audiovisual files can be submitted as supplementary documents in MP3, MP4, or AVI formats. The use of materials available in the video archive on the Internet Archive portal, sound files on the Petrucci Music Library portal, and various files in the Public Domain is also recommended.

 

Research Ethics

If the research involves any type of conflict of interest, the author must include a final note declaring that no links to funding agencies have been omitted. Similarly, the affiliated institution(s) of the author(s) must be cited. For articles resulting from research involving human subjects, according to Law 14.874 of May 28, 2024, it is necessary to include the CAEE number, provided by the Research Ethics Committee. This information should be indicated in a footnote.

 

Intellectual Property

The authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication, with the work licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution CC-BY license.

 

Position Statement on AI Use

Following the 2024 COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) statement, InCantare declares that AI tools do not meet authorship requirements; nor do they affirm the presence or absence of conflicts of interest; nor do they manage copyright and licensing agreements. Therefore, authors are responsible for the content of their manuscript and for any violation of the publication ethics adopted by the journal. Anti-plagiarism policies

Suspicions or accusations of plagiarism will be investigated by the editorial board and, if confirmed, appropriate action will be taken in accordance with publication ethics standards and applicable laws.
