Abstract

This study aims to analyze the challenges and perspectives regarding the impact of teacher training on the inclusion of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in school settings. In this context, teacher training represents one of the foundations for implementing inclusion. The main objective is to analyze how teacher training contributes to the quality of education provided to students with ASD, based on a corpus of published works in the thesis and dissertation databases of public institutions in Brazil. To achieve this general objective, the methodology is qualitative in nature. Methodologically, a literature review of publications from 2024 to 2026 was conducted during the month of January 2026. Data were collected from the following databases: SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), CAPES’ Thesis and Dissertation Database, and the Institutional Repository of the State University of Maranhão (UEMA). Studies directly related to the research topic were included; studies analyzing the relationship between teacher education and inclusion, using all types of methodological designs, were accepted, while studies lacking sufficient data for analysis, monographs, and duplicate studies were excluded. Initially, 37,535 studies were selected; after filtering, 110 studies remained, of which, following an initial review, 6 were included in the final review. Finally, the study found that there are challenges in achieving school inclusion and that many teachers feel unprepared to work with students with ASD, a factor exacerbated by a lack of teacher training. In this regard, the need to reformulate teacher training practices is evident.
