Abstract

The aim of this study is to present the results of an integrative review on the influence of artistic languages in promoting the well-being of older adults. The search was conducted in the following databases: Scielo, BVS, Redalyc, ERIC, BDTD, and the CAPES Periodicals Portal. The descriptors used were: elderly, artistic languages, art, and well-being, along with their equivalents in English and Spanish, using the Boolean operators AND and OR. The review covered the period from 2010 to 2023, identifying a total of 5,552 titles. Studies that did not mention contact with music and did not address the focal theme of this article were excluded based on their titles, followed by an evaluation of abstracts and full texts. Additionally, articles that were not available in open access or were duplicates were removed. This process resulted in the selection of 20 studies. The findings indicate that artistic languages associated with music promote comprehensive well-being in older adults, encompassing cognitive and physical health, personal satisfaction through self-development, and meaningful social interactions. The study concludes that psychosocial engagement and personal and artistic growth fostered by music contribute to an improved quality of life in this population.
