Abstract

The text outlines the process of an investigation that aimed to collect, catalog, and disseminate compositional work created by women born or residing in Portugal and directed towards classical guitar, from 1950 to 2022. As such, existing catalogs and databases along with other relevant sources for repertoire collection will be listed and discussed. The compiled catalog, final product of the investigation, will be thoroughly described to enable an understanding of its organization and the rationale behind the temporal distribution. To conclude, an assessment will be made regarding the information present in the reference source resulting from the research.

Author Biographies

Maria Beatriz Oliveira, Instituto de Etnomusicologia - Centro de Estudos em Música e Dança, Departamento de Comunicação e Arte da Universidade de Aveiro

Beatriz Oliveira is a Ph.D. candidate in music at INET-md, University of Aveiro, with a research scholarship funded by FCT. She also completed her undergraduate studies in Performance and a Master’s in Music Education at UA. She has premiered works by Portuguese composers and performed as a soloist in the world premiere of Rauhit Krishnan's Concerto No. 1 with the PSP Symphonic Band. She has played solo and in chamber music ensembles in national venues and attended masterclasses with internationally renowned guitarists. She is currently recording her first album, ODE, dedicated to music composed by women in Portugal, funded by the GDA Foundation.

Pedro Rodrigues, awarded in the Artists International Auditions (New York), the Sor Competition (Rome), and the Young Musicians Award (Lisbon), began his classical guitar studies with José Mesquita Lopes, continuing at the École Normale de Musique de Paris with Alberto Ponce. He obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Aveiro as a FCT scholarship recipient. He has performed as a soloist and with orchestras in prestigious venues across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa, with recordings for RTP, RDP, and labels such as NUMÉRICA. A professor in Aveiro, his transcriptions are published by Mel Bay Publications, and he premiered works by contemporary composers like Alberto Rodriguez-Ortiz and Isabel Soveral.
