Abstract

This text aims to characterize the geometric knowledge taught in the early years based on records in class diaries with Mathematics classes in teaching units that are part of the public network in the country of Caravelas, in the interior of Bahia. It adopts as a chronological framework the period from 2010 to 2019, in times of National Curricular Parameters and the National Common Curricular Base. The qualitative study is an excerpt from ongoing doctoral research, which investigates the teaching of Geometry in the first years of school in this location. To this end, it is based on theoretical references that use school documents as sources of investigation within the scope of mathematics education and on the assumptions of discursive textual analysis as an analytical tool. The results show that the Geometry thematic unit has gradually entered the pedagogical practices of the initial years, with approaches to flat and spatial figures, spatial location, angles, symmetry, straight lines, polygons… In this context, the textbook, which has been adapting to current curricular guidelines, appears as an instrument to support teaching work, contributing to this insertion.
