Bajubá: the language of the LGBTTQIA+ community as a practice of resistance, interculturality, and (re)coloniality

Abstract

This article, drawing from a perspective linked to Literacy Studies and Decolonial Studies, aims to understand Bajubá as a form of re-existence literacy, analyzing the linguistic strategies employed by the LGBTTQIA+ community. It also seeks to discuss the processes of appropriation and re-signification of the language of the saints, especially Yoruba origins present in Candomblé terreiros (religious spaces), considering the problematic intercultural relations between these historically marginalized groups. In this sense, Bajubá is understood as a practice of re-existence, since it enables the reinvention of knowledge, affectivities, and forms of sociability silenced by colonial and heteronormative processes. Furthermore, the article problematizes the publication of the work *Aurélia – A Dicionária da Língua Afiada* as a possible movement towards the institutionalization of this language, reflecting on the tensions between visibility, interculturality, and (re)coloniality. Methodologically, the study is bibliographic in nature and is based primarily on Street (2006; 2014), Souza (2011), Walsh (2009) and Mignolo (2008).
