Palliative care is the area that deals with the most delicate moment of human life, the approach of its end. Awareness of the proximity of such a moment can bring to light a series of characteristic issues that afflict those who find themselves in such a situation. Physical pain and respiratory problems are just some of the physical symptoms that an individual may present, but symptoms such as memory loss, anticipated grief, fear, psychological distress and loss or questioning of meaning are just as important for maintaining the patient's quality of life. OBJECTIVE: To identify primary articles that use imagery hearing techniques from receptive music therapy, especially the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music in palliative care, and narrate how the practice takes place. METHODOLOGY: This is a narrative review, where primary articles were researched that used the Method of Guided Imagery and Music or adaptations thereof applied in palliative care, seeking to understand the psychological and physiological effects on individuals aged 18 and over in hospital contexts, nursing homes or home care. RESULTS: It was possible to identify the main situations in which the method could be used, participants were able to deal with deep traumas and family issues, had relief from physical pain caused by terminal illnesses, recovered memories and developed bonds with relatives and people close together through the use of imagery guided by music.
