Abstract

This article analyses the organological evolution of the classical guitar, from its traditional roots to contemporary proposals that incorporate innovative materials and technologies. It examines the fundamental role of the soundboard in the instrument’s tonal quality, as well as the use of unconventional materials—such as carbon fibre, nomex, and balsa wood—in the construction of concert guitars. Based on principles of sustainability, it reflects on the ecological impact of current lutherie practices and considers the exploration of various natural and synthetic materials as viable alternatives. The study includes a survey aimed at renowned professional guitarists, whose responses reveal a growing openness towards instruments built with new materials, provided that high sonic and ergonomic standards are maintained. The work offers an integrative perspective between tradition, innovation, and environmental responsibility, aimed at the development of high-quality classical guitars for professional performers.
