The Theory of Metrical Dissonance has been developed since the last decades of the 20th century based on analyzes of Western repertoires from the 19th century. This theory has also received a few recent contributions. One of these new proposals deals with the dual-aspect of a metrical dissonance – a principle that brings together aspects of metrical consonance and dissonance. This paper revisits the concept of dual-aspect meter and seeks to articulate it with the idea of meter as a process and with principles specific to cognitive psychology. Three possible means of dualizing a metrical dissonance are identified: between the first and other listening; between the first and other occurrence; by style convention. This reinterpretation also includes analytical examples of repertoires from the last one hundred and twenty years, from popular and erudite traditions, which outline the entire body of the text below.
