Abstract

This paper addresses the importance of Fundação de Educação Artística (FEA) in the context of contemporary music in Belo Horizonte. As a case study, the paper examines the nearly 500 concerts held at its theater in the ten years preceding the coronavirus pandemic. By examining the number of composers represented and the diversity of works performed, the study highlights the importance of better understanding how the closure of its cultural venue in 2020, due to the pandemic, affected the city's music scene.

Guilherme Nascimento, Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais

Guilherme Nascimento is a composer. Professor and coordinator of the Research Center at the School of Music of the State University of Minas Gerais, in Belo Horizonte. He holds a doctorate in music from UNICAMP, a master's degree in communication and semiotics from PUC-SP and a bachelor's degree in composition from UFMG. Author of the books: Os sapatos floridos não voam and Música menor.
