This work analyzes three solo guitar performances by Jonathan Kreisberg of My Favorite Things, using Byron Almén's narrativity theory (2008) and ideas from the field of Storytelling. The audiovisual material and transcriptions are examined, focusing on phonographic data, melodic and harmonic vocabulary, and other aspects. The comparison focuses on the improvisation of the album version ONE (2013), interpreting its discourse as a conflict between two sets of isotopies (melodic lines and homophonic regions), which results in a comic archetype narrative. The study concludes that in all three versions Kreisberg follows an established narrative model that allows room for spontaneity. This model features an arranged exposition of the theme, a narrative conflict between isotopies, a convex arc in the improvisations, recurring support points, and notable variation in the melodic vocabulary, highlighting the complexity and sophistication of the performer’s artistic work.
