ALFABETIZAÇÃO E LETRAMENTO MATEMÁTICO: FALANDO DA MATEMACIA
Abstract
The article seeks to raise reflections on Mathematical Literacy and Mathematical Literacy, focusing on the concept of Literacy, Matemacia/Materacy and Technoracy, highlighting the reasons for learning and teaching mathematics. The theoretical contribution is anchored in Critical Mathematics Education, which puts on the screen the discussions related to mathematics and its role in society, thinking about the formation of critical individuals and promoters of their knowledge, building a culture based on respect and diversity, on the right’s human rights and freedom of expression. The methodological approach adopted is characterized as a bibliographic research and literature review, based on authors such as Ubiratan D’Ambrósio, Ole Skovsmose, Magda Soares and Ocsana Danyluk. We emphasize that an individual's process of mathematical literacy can lead to empowerment as he reorganizes his view of society and assumes an active role in social decisions. Simultaneously with literacy, we need to develop literacy practices that effectively allow this individual to enter the literate world. Literacy and literacy are interdependent and inseparable processes. We highlight the concept of Matemacia, which represents a form of mathematical literacy, providing mathematical and logical support for the exercise of a critical citizenship, so that individuals can participate in their society, using their mathematical knowledge, allowing them to position themselves in a conscious in search of a just and ethical society.
