Uso de Inteligência Artificial

Introduction

The Educação e Linguagens Journal acknowledges the potential of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools as aids in academic activities. However, to ensure the integrity and transparency of published research, this policy establishes mandatory guidelines for the use of these technologies by authors, editors, reviewers, and readers, in accordance with the Guide for the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools and Resources in Research Communication within the SciELO Network (SciELO, 2023).

Guidelines for Authors

Permissible Use and Transparency
Authors are permitted to use AI tools for purposes such as writing assistance, translation, formatting, image creation, or data analysis. However, such use must be declared explicitly and transparently, preferably in one of the following sections of the manuscript:

  • In the Methodology section, if the tool was directly involved in generating results.

  • In the Acknowledgements section, when AI was used for general support in writing, revision, or textual editing.

  • In a specific statement provided during article submission.

Mandatory Disclosure
Whenever an AI tool is used at any stage of the research or manuscript preparation, authors must report:

  • The name of the tool or software.

  • The purpose of its use.

  • The stage of the work where it was applied.

The omission of this declaration may result in the rejection of the manuscript or other editorial measures.

Responsibility and Authorship
AI tools cannot be listed as authors of the work, as they are incapable of assuming legal, ethical, or scientific responsibility for the content. The responsibility for the originality, veracity, accuracy, and integrity of all material, including that generated with AI assistance, lies entirely with the human authors (CAMBRIDGE, 2023; COPE, 2023).

Guidelines for Editors and Reviewers

The Editorial Board and reviewers may use AI tools strictly for internal operational support, for example, to identify potential reviewers, perform initial screening, or check for similarity. It is expressly forbidden to use AI for drafting reviews or for automated editorial decisions. Final deliberations are the sole responsibility of human editors.

Guidelines for Readers

The Education and Languages Journal authorizes readers to use AI tools to analyze or interpret published content, provided that the principles of proper citation, information integrity, and non-distortion of the original work are respected. Misuse may be reported according to the journal's ethics and best practices policy.

Ethical Restrictions

The use of AI is strictly prohibited for the following purposes:

  • Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data (scientific fraud).

  • Generation of images, tables, or texts that cannot be verified or validated by appropriate scientific methodologies.

  • Creation of misleading, fraudulent, or unverifiable content.

The Education and Languages Journal is committed to the principles of transparency, integrity, methodological rigor, and scientific ethics.

Policy Review and Updates

Given the rapid evolution of AI technologies, this policy will be subject to periodic review by the Editorial Board of the Revista Educação e Linguagens. Updates will be based on guidelines from international bodies such as COPE, SciELO, and ABEC, among others, ensuring continued compliance with the highest ethical standards in scientific communication.
