Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The manuscript is original, has not been previously published, and is not under consideration by any other journal.
  • The manuscript adheres to the journal's template, editorial standards, and author guidelines.
  • All authors have participated significantly in the work and agree with the submission, with their contributions duly stated.
  • The authors declare the existence or non-existence of conflicts of interest.
  • Research involving human beings or animals complied with current ethical standards and has approval from a competent committee, where applicable.
  • The authors assume full responsibility for the content of the manuscript and agree with the journal's copyright policy and the adopted publication license (CC BY 4.0).
  • The authors are aware that the journal uses plagiarism detection tools and agree with the peer-review process.

Author Guidelines

Journal Education and Languages (Revista Educação e Linguagens) is a periodic scientific publication of the Pedagogy and Letters Courses of the State University of Paraná (UNESPAR), Campus of Campo Mourão. It is an online, open access, continuous flow journal that publishes original and unpublished articles in the fields of Human Sciences and Linguistics, Letters and Arts, with an emphasis on Education, Linguistics, and Letters.

The following Guidelines refer exclusively to the preparation and submission of manuscripts; to access the publication standards, click here.

  1. Scope Appropriateness
    Submitted manuscripts must conform to the journal's scope, covering the fields of Human Sciences and Linguistics, Letters and Arts, with an emphasis on Education, Linguistics, and Letters.
  2. Types of Accepted Works
    The journal accepts: Articles from empirical research; Systematic or literature review articles; Book reviews; Interviews; Thematic dossiers.
  3. Submission and Template Use
    Submission must be made exclusively through the journal's portal. The manuscript must fully adhere to the official template and the guidelines presented in these Author Guidelines.
  4. Structure and Length of the Work
    Unpublished articles written in Portuguese, English, or Spanish, with a length between 15 and 25 pages, will be accepted. The title must have a maximum of 15 words. The work must contain abstracts in all three languages, each with 150 to 250 words, accompanied by four keywords chosen from the controlled vocabulary: Thesaurus Brasileiro de Educação (Brazilian Education Thesaurus), available at http://pergamum.inep.gov.br/pergamum/biblioteca/pesquisa_thesauro.php?resolution2=1024_1. Bibliographic references must be included at the end.

  5. Document Formatting
    The article must be prepared in a Word processor, following the formatting specifications: A4 paper, margins of 2.0 cm on all sides (top, bottom, right, and left). The font to be used is Arial, size 11, with 1.5 line spacing. The main text must maintain 1.5 cm line spacing and font size 11.

  6. Citation Formatting
    Citations in the text must follow the ABNT NBR 10520:2023 standard (e.g., Teixeira (1952, p. 70); (Teixeira, 1952); (Teixeira, 1952, p. 71)). Direct quotations with up to 3 lines should be incorporated into the text, within double quotation marks. Direct quotations with four lines or more should be formatted with font size 10 and single line spacing. They must be referenced with the author's last name(s), year of publication, and page number.

  7. Explanatory Notes
    The use of notes is discouraged. When indispensable, they must be inserted as footnotes, exclusively in the body of the text. Notes in titles, abstracts, or keywords are not permitted.
  8. Author Identification
    The complete data of the authors (name, highest degree, institution, country, institutional affiliation, email, and ORCID) must be registered only in the system's metadata, according to the tutorial available on the journal's website.
  9. Number and Profile of Authors
    Articles may have up to three authors, and it is desirable that they belong to research groups. At least one of the authors must hold a doctoral degree.
  10. Articles Derived from Theses and Dissertations
    Articles originating from master's dissertations or doctoral theses may have a maximum of two authors.
  11. Submission Frequency per Author
    Authors and co-authors who have had works published in the journal must wait a minimum interval of one year to make a new submission.
  12. Authorship Contributions (CRediT)
    At the end of the manuscript, the "Author Contributions" section must be included, specifying the individual participation of each author, according to the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT).
  13. Blind Evaluation and Manuscript Anonymization
    To guarantee double-blind peer review, the manuscript must be completely anonymized. All author names, institutional affiliations, emails, and any information that allows identification must be removed, including from the file properties. Citations to the authors' own works must be replaced by (AUTHOR, YEAR).
  14. Reference Standards
    References must be prepared according to the ABNT NBR 6023:2018 standard, including only works cited in the text.
  15. DOI or URL
    The DOI is mandatory for all references that have one. In the absence of a DOI, the stable URL of the publication must be provided.
  16. Bibliographic References
    It is recommended that the theoretical framework and discussion engage with relevant national and international literature, as well as recent publications in the field, respecting the nature and objectives of the study.
  17. Mandatory Documents for Submission
    For a submission to be considered complete, the following is mandatory: Anonymized manuscript, prepared using the journal's official template.
  18. Publication and Translation
    Approved articles may be published in Portuguese and, optionally, in English and/or Spanish. When a translation is provided, authors must inform the translator's details and present a signed statement from the person responsible for the linguistic review.
  19. Complementary Documents (when applicable)
    When pertinent, the following should be attached: Declaration of Artificial Intelligence use; Research Ethics Committee approval report; Declaration of compliance with Open Science practices; Translated versions of the manuscript and translator's statement.
  20. Open Science and Data Availability
    The journal optionally encourages the sharing of research data in reliable repositories. When applicable, the manuscript must contain a "Data Availability" section, informing the permanent access link, data description, and usage license.
  21. Editorial and Ethical Policies
    The Journal Education and Languages adopts policies on ethics, scientific integrity, peer review, use of Artificial Intelligence, conflicts of interest, and copyright, available in specific sections of the journal's website.
