The present article, derived from a broad research, examines in detail and systematically the use of variants of chains of consecutive dominants in a corpus of pieces composed by Antonio Carlos Jobim. The development of a theoretical model formed by a set of assumptions, concepts, typologie, and analytical tools allows the classification of variants and their plotting in an original planar graphic scheme labeled DCnet, in which rectangles represent chords of "dominant-seventh" quality, arranged according to three basic axes. This strategy highlights the considerable multiplicity of alternatives (especially non-normative ones) present in the repertoire. Studies derived from this proposal are planned to be pursued in the future aiming to investigate the reasons for this diversity, as well as to provide a proper generalization for the model, considering other repertoires.
