Dossier Gérard Grisey
It has been 25 years without Gérard Grisey. During the seventies, Grisey emerged in concert music and became known as a composer of Spectral music and a protagonist figure in compositional thinking. Unfortunately, he departed this world too early. However, he left strong roots in French musical composition and, together with other essential composers, quickly spread his spirituality to the rest of the world towards music thinking as something made of forces that have birth, life, and death. His compositional language was indeed critical of his time. As he stated, spectral thinking rethought the temporal origins of music; integrated sounds, harmonies, and timbres; broke with the restraints of the temperament tuning; sought an ecological sense in the treatment of sounds. In short, a new attitude towards music, creation, and sound. This call welcomes original submissions regarding Grisey, his music and his legacy to the musical world.
