Abstract

The stylus phantasticus was a style of composition and performance developed .in the 17th century and it was related with the sense of liberty to the composer and to the performer so they could move the listeners’ affects, enchanting then by a set of expectations. This style of musical composition was the focus of the studies of several music theorists, notably Athanasius Kircher and Johann Mattheson. Johann Sebasttian Bach utilized this style particularly in his harpsichord tocatas BWV 910-916, composed in the beginning of the 17th century. This article proposes an investigation of the stylus phantasticus beginning with the primary sources that built this concept to the context that Bach was inserted and an analysis of how this style takes place at the toccata BWV 912.

Lucas Thomasi Genero, Universidade Federal do Paraná

Lucas Thomasi Genero é pianista, cravista e educador musical. É licenciado em música pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (2020), aluno do curso superior em piano pela Escola de Música e Belas Artes do Paraná (EMBAP) e mestrando em Musicologia (2021) sob orientação de Silvana Scarinci (UFPR) e coorientação de Helena Jank (Unicamp). Nos últimos anos, desenvolveu sua pesquisa sobre Johann Sebastian Bach e os compositores do norte da Alemanha do fim do século XVII. Também atua como continuísta e professor de música na escola regular.

Helena Jank, Universidade Estadual de Campinas

Helena Jank é professora Titular da Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp), onde obteve o título de Doutor em Música, especializou-se na interpretação da música barroca em perspectiva historicamente orientada. Responsável pela criação do primeiro curso de Bacharelado em Cravo do país, na Unicamp, em cujo Instituto de Artes lecionou cravo, baixo contínuo, música de câmara e história da música. Desenvolve pesquisa e orientações em nível de Pós-Graduação na mesma instituição, sobre temas como retórica musical no período barroco, relação texto-música e uso de figuras na expressão dos afetos, na música do mesmo período. Foi Diretora do Instituto de Artes da Unicamp entre 1999 e 2003.
