Esta é a tradução do capítulo escrito por Randall Allsup, Philosophical perspectives of music education, publicado em 2010 no livro Critical issues in music education: contemporary theory and practice editado por Harold J. Abeles e Lori Custodero. O campo da filosofia da educação musical, que conta com produção significativa em língua inglesa, ainda tem pouca presença entre pesquisadores brasileiros. Allsup é docente na Teachers College da Columbia University em cursos vinculados aÌ€ criatividade e resolução de problemas, democracia e educação musical e filosofia da educação musical.
