This article aims to demonstrate hip-hop as a legitimate form of art, as well as to discuss how it has transformed into a powerful and multifaceted movement in defence of minorities who face rejection and violence from conservatives. Historical, aesthetic, political, and territorial aspects of the hip-hop cultural movement will be addressed, considering the relationship between art and hip-hop. Over time, hip-hop has been incorporated into global culture, yet it has maintained its strength in defending minority cultures. The resistance of artists and individuals who remain faithful to the roots of hip-hop is highlighted, understanding it as a continuous movement that cannot be suppressed by conservatives. As a methodology, we will employ conceptual analysis to examine the concept of art according to various authors and to assess whether hip-hop, particularly rap, falls within that concept, drawing on the theories of Jacques Rancière, Arthur C. Danto, and John Dewey to support the artistic essence of hip-hop.
