Bicycle as an Art Instrument

Caminhos ("Pathways") is the current stage of an artistic research that’s been developed over the past few years, considering bicycles as an aesthetic element and as a modal of urban transport, using a GPS device and open-source maps and databases as an auxiliary tool. The project is linked to some concepts like formativity, as proposed by Luigi Pareyson (2001) and those linked to the process of dematerialization of the work of art, according to Lucy Lippard and John Chandler (1971). Caminhos is also linked to the theory of social construction of technology (SCOT) as proposed by Trevor Pinch and Wiebe Bijker (1987), especially to the concepts of opening and closure of meaning of technological artifacts, regarded from its elaboration process, and to the concept of technological systems, as proposed by Thomas Hughes (2012).
