Abstract

The objective of the present work was to identify some determinant factors for the quality of teaching in Mathematics. It was used the data of the Prova Brasil 2011, produced by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (INEP). The work is based on the Bourdieu’s theory of cultural capital, which was also used to justify the variables chosen in statistical research. For the treatment of this data, we used the Statistical Analysis System software (SAS). The research findings allow us to infer that there is positive association between the cultural capital of the student's family and their performance in Mathematics in the Prova Brasil 2011, considering the Maringá/PR 9th grade of Elementary School.
