Abstract

The teaching of scientific knowledge must not rely on outdated content. It is crucial that the curriculum reflects up-to-date knowledge aligned with current scientific developments. This essay aims to explore the factors that hinder the integration of contemporary evolutionary biology discussions into biology education, both in higher and basic education. The two main frameworks—Modern Synthesis and Extended Evolutionary Synthesis—will be discussed to outline the ongoing epistemological debates. The theory of didactic transposition will serve as a foundation to examine why the Extended Synthesis remains underrepresented in teaching. Finally, we will suggest practical strategies for incorporating this topic into the classroom to promote a deeper understanding of the nature of science.
