Abstract

In this text, we analyze the various meanings that the painting Girl with a Pearl Earring by Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer has taken on throughout history, based on different works and artistic genres from the 17th century to the present day. By engaging in interdisciplinary categories and authorships, we propose a discussion that takes into account the effects of the evidentiary paradigm and the regimes of visibility that operate in the representations of gender in the aforementioned work. With this, we propose other perspectives on Girl with a Pearl Earring, from the perspectives of trans arts, but also the possibilities of racializing the debate.
