During the first decade of the 21st century, Brazil became part of important global geopolitical decisions, being elected in 2009 the XXXI Olympiad's host country of the Modern Era. Therefore, this study aimed to elucidate the creative team's artistic perspective during the design process of the Opening Ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, with a qualitative approach based on a bibliographic and documentary basis. The findings indicate that the event can be understood as a new cycle of artistic-identity affirmation due to its conceptual planning, dimension of presentation of the results, and consecutive disclosure, inserting new elements of Brazilian culture through the mix of various traditional, modern, and contemporary art forms.
