This article investigates the relationship between imagination and Surrealism, highlighting how the artists of this movement worked to merge dreams and reality, forging an absolute reality, a kind of surreality. To this end, initially there will be a brief contextualization of the meaning of imagination, revisiting authors such as Aristotle, Saint Augustine, David Hume, Immanuel Kant, Jean-Paul Sartre and Sigmund Freud. The Surrealist Manifesto, which turns 100 years old in 2024, and works by the surrealist master Salvador Dalí, will be objects of analysis on how the imagination transcended traditional artistic conventions through the surrealist movement, giving rise to a universe of disturbing, dream-like images, as well as unexpected associations.
