Abstract

This interview with Argentine cinematographer Delfina Margulis Darriba examines the ethical and aesthetic dimensions of image-making in Guapo'y (Sofía Paoli, 2022), a Paraguayan documentary about Celsa Ramírez Rodas, imprisoned during the Stroessner dictatorship. Margulis reflects on her collaborative approach to cinematography, emphasizing the political role of visual storytelling in contexts of historical trauma. She discusses the delicate balance between ethical representation and artistic intervention, particularly when working with sensitive narratives about state violence. The conversation highlights Guapo'y's visual strategies—including the use of natural light, color palettes, textures, and the treatment of domestic space as a character—to construct memory and the protagonist's poetics of healing.
