Dossier: Counter-colonial Artistic Practices
Advisory Editors: Cleber Braga (UFSJ, Brazil), Alejandra Wolff (PUC y MNBA, Chile) and Marta Sierra (Kenyon College, USA)
The Counter-colonial Artistic Practices Dossier focus on to bring together contributions on different artistic practices aimed at confronting ongoing coloniality, in its multiple unfoldings, as well as to imagine and make visible the mechanisms of resistance and rebellion against racism, male chauvinism, LGBTphobia, environmental devastation, Necropolitics, among other forms of oppression that relate to the world-system, in its intimate relationship with capitalism, Eurocentrism and the coloniality of power (QUIJANO, 2005)*.
Technologies of sharing, regenerative practices, self-care, networked creations, artivism, environmental justice, biopolitics and the agency of non-human entities in times of ecological crisis are some of the perspectives raised, among many other possible ones. Without limiting ourselves to this, we will consider works whose approaches include intersectoral perspectives around:
- Collaborative and activist artworks and practices, aimed at strengthening communities and territories, which includes sex/gender, anti-racist, anti-ableist and anti-ageism perspectives; the non-human from indigenous and multi-species epistemologies.
- Artistic works and practices that address environmental issues, sustainability, land rights, climate change, deforestation and extractivism.
Deadline for Submissions: 30 June 2025.
