About the Journal
FOCUS AND SCOPE
Revista Científica/FAP (ISSN 1980-5071 - Qualis A4) is an open-access, biannual electronic arts journal published by the State University of Paraná - UNESPAR / Curitiba II Campus - Paraná College of Arts (FAP), created in 2006. In addition to free access, there is no submission or publication fee.
Focussing on the arts, the journal publishes articles, essays, reviews, interviews and translations in the following areas: Visual Arts; Photography; Video Arts; Cinema; Dance; Performing Arts or Theatre; Performance and Music.
Proposals can relate to other disciplinary fields, based on a wide variety of theoretical approaches. Works from outside the field of Arts are not accepted.
PERIODICITY: every six months
EDITORIAL POLICY
Revista Científica / FAP is published every six months and has two types of call:
a) Thematic Dossier, with a pre-defined theme and call period;
b) Continuous flow, for papers that can be submitted at any time.
Works submitted to Thematic Dossiers are evaluated until the publication of the Dossier to which they were submitted (i.e. within a maximum of six months). Exceptionally, if the evaluation process extends beyond the publication date of the Dossier, if the work is accepted, and with the consent of the authors, it can be published in the Continuous Flow Articles section of the following issue.
Works submitted in continuous flow are evaluated within a maximum of six months and, if accepted, are published in the issue immediately following the date of acceptance. In exceptional cases, if the evaluation takes longer than six months, authors will be notified by email.
Authorship
The journal accepts papers from Masters and PhD authors linked to national or international institutions, and papers can be submitted in Portuguese, English, Spanish or French. Exceptionally, at the discretion of the editors and Dossier organisers, papers by PhDs co-authored with Master's students may be accepted.
All (co-)authors are responsible for the content and must have participated sufficiently to be listed as authors in any publication. Thus, those who played a significant role in the research, writing and final revision of the text should be listed as (co) authors. Guidance alone does not necessarily characterise authorship of the text.
Other types of collaboration should be specified. Revista Científica/ FAP recommends the Contributor Role Taxonomy for credits, which can be found here.
If the work is being analysed by another journal, authors must inform Revista Científica/FAP at the time of submission, or at any time prior to the publication of the issue immediately following the date of submission.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that grammar and spelling are correct. If deemed necessary during the evaluation, it will be the responsibility of the authors to arrange for the manuscripts to be professionally proofread (grammar, spelling, standardisation).
In the event of corrections indicated by reviewers or editors, these must be carried out by the authors in order for the work to be published if accepted.
Authors declare that the use of copyright of images, sounds and other elements in the manuscript has been duly credited and authorised, where applicable.
Here are all the guidelines for authors of the Revista Científica/FAP. By submitting a manuscript, authors automatically declare their awareness of and agreement with the rules, guidelines and editorial policy of Revista Científica/FAP.
Evaluation
Initially, manuscripts are evaluated by the journal's editorial team. Those that do not meet the editorial criteria described in the "Guidelines for Authors" section will be returned to the authors.
Papers that comply with the "Guidelines for Authors" will be sent to referees from the Scientific Council or ad-hoc consultants, depending on the specific nature of the work submitted and the expertise of the referee invited to review it. In the case of thematic Dossiers, guest organisers may act as reviewers. The evaluation is carried out by at least two reviewers using the double-blind evaluation system, in which the identity of authors and evaluators is kept confidential.
The opinion will include criteria relating to content and formal aspects. Thus, the papers will be assessed on their theoretical and empirical content, coherence and mastery of the scientific and artistic literature. They will also be judged on their contribution to the specific field, the topicality of the theme, the structure of the text, the methodology and the quality of the writing. If there is a disagreement between two reviewers, the work is sent to a third reviewer. Based on the opinions, an editorial decision is made and communicated by email to the authors. If there are changes or corrections suggested by the reviewers, the authors will have a deadline, set in the same email, to resubmit the work.
Peer review process
The Journal's policy on the peer review process states that:
- Editors and reviewers must respect the intellectual independence of authors;
- reviewers should instruct authors objectively on how to improve the work submitted for publication;
- if there is a conflict of interest on the part of reviewers (of a personal, academic, commercial, political or other nature), they must inform the editors so that the work can be forwarded to another reviewer, guaranteeing neutrality and impartiality in the evaluation;
- the evaluation process implies secrecy and must be treated in confidence, involving only the editors and designated reviewers;
- the confidentiality of the names of authors and evaluators is guaranteed during the review process. Each issue of the journal publishes a list of ad-hoc referees, without linking the referee to the work being evaluated.
-Exceptionally, editors may issue opinions.
The Journal's Evaluation Form covers the following topics:
- Does the article fit in with the theme/editorial line of the journal?
- Is the topic current and relevant?
- Are the article's objectives and justification well defined?
- Does the literature review reflect state-of-the-art knowledge in the field?
- Is the work conceptually or theoretically consistent and well-structured?
- Is the research method used defined and consistent with the objectives of the work?
- Was the conclusion well-founded in the correct interpretative analysis of data and results?
- Has it made an artistic/educational/theoretical contribution to knowledge in the subject area?
- Is the writing and organisation of the text adequate in terms of spelling, grammar, comprehensibility, objectivity and formal structure?
- Your comments on the form: structure, language and presentation (these comments are accessible to authors)
- Your comments on the content: arguments, development, method and conclusions (these comments are accessible to authors)
- Comments addressed to editors (if any) [topic only for forms submitted after July 2024]

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, EQUALITY and ACCESSIBILITY POLICY
Revista Científica/FAP is committed to promoting equity and inclusion in the face of historically constructed gender, racial and social inequalities, and in the face of access difficulties for people with disabilities. We seek strategies that prioritise diversity in terms of gender, ethnicity, geographical origin, social class, age group and institutional affiliations, both in the Editorial Team, Journal Boards and guest reviewers, as well as in the publications made, promoting the dissemination of research by and about women (cis and trans), LGBTQIA+ people, people from different ethnicities and native peoples and people from different age groups. Through these strategies, we seek to promote greater representation in the academic and scientific community, as well as the dissemination and exchange of up-to-date knowledge on these issues. Recognising the difficulties faced by different individuals and communities, Revista Científica/FAP is committed to offering personalised support whenever necessary, with a view to working towards a fairer, more inclusive and equal world.
