Abstract

The State Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora do Rocio, in
Paranaguá, Paraná, stands out as an essential religious tourism destination in
southern Brazil. Devotion to the States Patron Saint attracts thousands of
faithful annually, boosting the local economy and generating income and
employment for various sectors. To strengthen religious tourism in the city of
In Paranaguá and the coastal region, integration with public policies is
essential. Several measures can be taken to improve infrastructure, promote
the destination, train professionals and encourage the sustainable
development of religious tourism. The Sanctuary is a place of profound
experience of faith, devotion and religiosity that constitutes the cultural
formation of the parnanguara population, attracting thousands of pilgrims and
tourists in search of spiritual experiences and connection with the history and
religious culture that has a strong presence on the coast of Paraná since
colonization, even being of great importance in the formation of the State
itself. Every year, thousands of faithful gather at the Sanctuary to participate
in the Feast of Nossa Senhora do Rocio, which takes place between the 1st
and 15th of November. The procession with the image of the saint, held on the 15th, is one of the most memorable moments of the festival, bringing
together crowds of devotees.
