This article examines Geographical Indication (GI) certification on the coast of Paraná, exploring its benefits, challenges, and impact on regional development. GI is a tool that gives reputation, value, and identity to specific products from a region, differentiating them from others available on the market. GI certification can be classified into different typologies, including Denomination of Origin (DO) and Indication of Origin (IP), each with specific recognition criteria. The objective of this research is to analyze the impact of GI certification on the appreciation of local products and the socioeconomic development of the region. The methodology adopted was based on a detailed bibliographic review on the topic, covering relevant studies and reports. The results show that GI certification contributes significantly to the appreciation of products, increasing their sales and opening new markets. Furthermore, the GI promotes regional visibility, encouraging tourism and boosting the local economy. However, the dissemination of the GI concept among consumers still faces challenges, such as a lack of knowledge and understanding of the value added by these certifications. In Brazil, GI certification has gained importance, with several regions seeking to protect and enhance their local products. In Paraná, GI has been successfully implemented in several areas, reflecting the diversity and cultural richness of the state. Specifically on the coast of Paraná, products such as banana candy and artisanal cachaça have stood out, showing how GI can benefit local economies and preserve cultural traditions. It is concluded that, despite the barriers, GI represents an effective strategy for the sustainable development of producing regions, benefiting both producers and consumers.
