Abstract

What motivates recently retired elderly individuals to seek continuity or reintegration in work activities? This qualitative and descriptive study investigated the reasons why recently retired elderly individuals seek to continue or reintegrate into work activities. Through in-depth interviews, the perceptions of the elderly regarding perceived benefits for the organization, work challenges and difficulties, as well as relationships with professionals from other generations, were explored. The study mapped the everyday issues and challenges faced by elderly individuals at the beginning of their third age in the workplace. The results revealed that the interviewed elderly individuals had a positive perspective regarding the continuation of work after retirement, particularly motivated by financial aspects and social integration with the work environment and colleagues.
