This article seeks to briefly discuss the relationship of authors with the writing of letters throughout the centuries. In addition, it makes an approximation between letter writing and literary writing. For this discussion, the contribution of Françoise Simonet-Tenant and Brigitte Diaz is used. It then compares letter writing with the new means of communication, based mainly on the studies of Jean-Philippe Arrou-Vignod and Benoît Melançon. It is noted that, from the use of new media, there has been a loss of the poetry found in epistolary writing.
