Sexual education in childhood is a topic of growing relevance in contemporary society. Understanding parents' perspectives and practices in relation to this subject is fundamental to promoting a healthy learning and development environment for children. In this context, this qualitative-descriptive study investigated parents' perspectives and practices in relation to sex education in childhood, with the aim of understanding their perceptions and orientations on the subject. Ten parents living in Belém/PB took part in the study. Three data collection instruments were used: a sociodemographic form, an interview questionnaire and a field diary. The data was analyzed using a phenomenological-empirical approach. The results highlighted the importance of talking about sexuality from an early age in order to develop a critical awareness in children, promoting respectful and safe behavior in relation to their own bodies and those of others, as well as preventing situations of violence and abuse. The importance of both the family and the school in this context was highlighted, suggesting a significant contribution to improving sex education in the family and school environment. It is concluded that promoting discussions on sexuality contributes to the formation of healthier children who are prepared to deal with issues related to sexuality throughout their lives.
