This study aims to understand the factors that led teachers from the Municipal Network in the interior of Minas Gerais to leave the classroom and submit themselves to the situation of functional adjustment. Interviews were carried out with 12 teachers in adjustment situations in municipal public schools. The research is characterized as qualitative and as a data collection tool, semi-structured interviews were used. After data collection, the information was analyzed and interpreted. At the end of the research, it was possible to verify that in these teachers interviewed there was the presence of both physical and mental illness. Calluses on the vocal cords were one of the cases most cited by teachers. It was found that the workload contributes to the burnout of these professionals. It is concluded, from the analyses, that teachers need to feel more emotionally secure to practice their profession and be more valued. Therefore, the need to look at the teacher's working conditions, their well-being and health, and not just the results of their professional action, is highlighted.
