Abstract

Abstract: The large number existing within the entomological range allows insects to be tools of great importance for teaching science as a whole, enabling interdisciplinarity. In this sense, the need to investigate whether insects are and how they are being used by teachers in the classroom and in basic science teaching was aroused. In this way, the aim was to use insects as a teaching-learning tool. A qualitative research, bibliographical review, articles, periodicals from CAPES, SCielo and academic repositories from public and national institutions, preferably the Portuguese language, on the use of insects in science teaching were chosen, starting from points of view where it is exposed to the authors' view on the importance of working on entomological knowledge in teaching, and the meaning of teaching in an objective and scientific way, breaking the limitations of the classroom environment and disseminating concepts about the topic. It was based on the idea that teachers should work on content, within their disciplines and regardless of whatever the content, seek to aggregate knowledge about science in an interdisciplinary way. We conclude that the use of entomology as a teaching tool has been a target for teachers in science teaching, and that this tactic allows for a wide range of learning. The articles worked on show results of acceptance by students and also enable cognitive adaptation, giving them a new scientific perspective that is not limited only to the textbook.
