This study investigates the training of rural teachers from state of the art on the accumulated production in Rural Education, published in the period from 2004 to 2020. It is a bibliographical research, with the objective of mapping the production of theses and dissertations, in order to identify what has been discussed in the academic field after important political and legal milestones of Rural Education in Brazil. The results indicate a significant increase in research defended in the large area of Human Sciences and Education in the stricto sensu postgraduate programs registered in the Education evaluation area of Capes, with emphasis on the themes public schools (state and municipal), training of teachers and public policies. The data reveal that the theses and dissertations research discussions are attentive to the reality of public schools, highlighting the vulnerability in the application of public policies in Rural Education. The training of rural teachers gains prominence with investigations into teaching identity, Socialist Pedagogy, Earth Pedagogy, research into training processes, continuing education, Active School, Pro-literacy, training for Youth and Adult Education and the Degree in Rural Education.
