Digressão e paródia num causo em O Xangô de Baker Street

Abstract

This study proposes a microanalysis of an anecdote from Jo Soares’ A samba for Sherlock. The idea is to research how this fragment may offer an insight into the interpretation of that Brazilian novel. For that, it is fundamental the analysis of two mechanisms that configure Soares’ work: digression and parody. The digression is articulated with the diversion of the reader’s attention from the detective’s proceedings that are central to the novel. That resource tends to detour the narrative, configuring a mise en abyme. The parody, understood in Linda Hutcheon (1985) terms, is linked, on one hand, with the appropriation and subversion of narrative elements and, on the other hand, with the mockery suffered by the detective and the narrator. Such aspects can be read as a microcosmos of those that structure Jo Soares’ novel.
