Abstract

This paper analyses the movements and flows of students taking licentiate degree courses, which are offered at a Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia, and the temporal cut  (application cycle), during which the research takes place, refers to the eight years between 2012 and 2020. The research, during its first phase, is restricted to the description of retention and dropout phenomenas, which comes from multiple case studies (of a variety of application cycles), documental analysis and quantitative analysis. Once the mapping was carried out, it was possible to establish that there was a small amount of soon-to-be graduating students (10% approximately) and an elevated amount of dropouts (50% approximately), a fact which indicates the need of public policies that maximize the permanence of students in these licentiate degree courses until students conclude these courses they are taking.
