Abstract

This work is the result of qualitative research and aims to analyze teacher training from the perspective of including deaf students in Professional and Technological Education (EPT), focusing on the Goiano Federal Institute. The analysis was based on a literature review in order to confront assumptions that take into account the peculiarities of legislation and teacher training. This study was developed in four sections: The first part presents the historical process of Inclusion in Brazil. The second describes the history of deaf education in Brazil and the inclusion of deaf students in EPT. The third section addresses teacher training regarding the inclusion of deaf students. In the last section, we discuss the importance of teacher training for working with deaf students. As a result, it is observed that teacher training remains one of the main challenges to the effective implementation of educational inclusion. Although the legislation guarantees the right to education Inclusive, the lack of continuous investment in teacher training means that inclusion is largely limited to individual initiatives, without being established as an institutional policy. The study highlights that teacher qualification is needed both in initial and continuing education, as well as teacher training focused on the education of the deaf.
