Hyperculture, knowledge mediation, and teaching practices in the STEM proposal: A bibliometric analysis using IRAMUTEQ

This study aimed to understand the perceptions and practices of higher education professors regarding hyperculture, its influence on knowledge mediation, and the impact of digital technologies on the approach to scientific concepts in teaching practices grounded in the STEM approach. The research adopted a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative procedures. Sixty-two professors from undergraduate programs in Biological Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics at a public university in Pernambuco participated in the study. Data were collected through a questionnaire containing open-ended, closed-ended, and Likert-scale structured items. Quantitative responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, and Friedman test. Discursive responses were subjected to bibliometric analysis using the IRAMUTEQ software, employing Correspondence Factor Analysis and Descending Hierarchical Classification. The results showed high reliability of the instrument (α = 0.954) and demonstrated that teachers recognize digital technologies as important mechanisms for cognitive mediation, favoring STEM practices focused on scientific investigation, problem-solving, collaboration, and student leadership. Lexical analyses revealed a strong association between STEM, hyperculture, collaborative learning, interdisciplinarity, and the use of digital resources. It is concluded that hyperculture and digital technologies exert a significant influence on the mediation of scientific knowledge and on teaching practices in higher education, favoring more interdisciplinary and investigative STEM approaches aligned with the assumptions of Cognitive Mediation Theory.
