Motivation to learn has been extensively studied by researchers in different fields. In Science Education, analyses of students' motivational profiles and the effect of different approaches on student motivation have been conducted. This study sought to compare the motivation of undergraduate students using an investigative approach in supervised internships and teaching residencies. The study was conducted with 27 students from a Chemistry undergraduate program at a public institution who developed and conducted investigative activities for their peers. To evaluate the effectiveness of the approach, the Science Motivation Questionnaire II and the Basic Psychological Needs in General, Problems in School Questionnaire were applied, and interviews and field observations were carried out. After the development of the entire project and analysis of the questionnaires, interviews, and field observations, it was possible to observe that the motivation of undergraduate students in teaching residencies was greater than that of those in supervised internships.
