Abstract

In this text, Nelly Richard conducts a critical analysis of the work of Lotty Rosenfeld, emphasizing the period from the 1970s to the 1980s of the artist's production. Through the elaboration of analysis cores, Richard connects different works, ranging from the most iconic to the lesser-known ones, tracing from the distinct contexts and formats of each, their shared meanings. During the essay, Richard develops a profound reflection on Lotty Rosenfeld's artistic trajectory, emphasizing both her period as part of the Chilean avant-garde art movement (during her participation in the CADA Group) and her political involvement in the feminist movement "Mujeres por la Vida", finding in the political realm the line that connects Rosenfeld's life and artistic trajectory. This text was originally published in the catalog "Lotty Rosenfeld: entrecruces de la memoria (1979-2020)" from the retrospective exhibition of Lotty Rosenfeld - curated by Nelly Richard with research by Mariairis Flores - held at the National Museum of Fine Arts (Santiago, Chile) in September 2023, in the context of the commemorations of the fifty years since the 1973 coup d'état. The reproduction of this text was authorized by the author and features the translation by Raíza Cavalcanti.
