GOTTFRIED SEMPER E O ESTILO EM ARQUITETURA NO SÉCULO XIX

O presente artigo analisa o conceito de Estilo elaborado pelo arquiteto e teórico Gottfried Semper (1803-1879), autor de uma das mais célebres obras teóricas do século XIX: Der Stil. Pretende-se compreender o modo como este conceito, primordial para a compreensão da ideia de Arquitetura em meados do século XIX, foi proposto pelo autor em meio a um debate acalorado sobre o tema, e diante de uma crise expressiva da prática arquitetônica. Este estudo é elaborado a partir de uma análise bibliográfica da literatura especializada e do próprio discurso teórico do arquiteto, construído e publicado em seu contexto de produção e de formação discursiva. Argumenta-se que, diversamente do que colocou a historiografia tradicional da arte e da arquitetura, o pensamento de Semper vai além de meras classificações materialistas ou estilísticas do legado de sua obra, e por isto não pode se reduzir a elas.
