Art and Greek National Identity
A Study on The Opening Ceremony of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games

This study aims to explore the Greek national identity as depicted in the Opening Ceremony of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. The research employs a qualitative approach, relying on bibliographic and documentary surveys. It constitutes a case study within Peirce's semiotic framework (2017), analyzed using the “Analysis of Moving Images” method adapted by Silva (2019) from Rose (2015), supported by the Opening Ceremony Media Guide. The study analyzes the symbolic elements that represent the Greek national identity showcased in the ceremony.
