MALE VIRIILITY IN OLD AGE:
REPRESENTATION IN THREE NOVELS WITH ANTÔNIO FAGUNDES

ABSTRACT: The article discusses representations of masculinity, using the concept of Stuart Hall (2016), based on three elderly characters played by actor Antônio Fagundes, nationally known and with a solid career, in different television fiction productions. They are: Amor à vida, Velho Chico and Bom Sucesso, all from TV Globo. The question that guides the purpose of the discussion is to investigate how the fictional narrative, with its dialogic and imagery signs, describes aging male characters in the respective plots, focusing on the exercise of their sexuality as a form of power. As final results, it is pointed out that the male meanings related to virility and power are presented in a cohesive unit, marking structural continuities of male domination (Bordieu, 1998) in society, despite the evidenced age issue.
