The Social Organizations of the Rolling tourism Community in Argentina

Abstract

Tourism has many ways to enjoy leisure and recreation, and caravanning combines mobility with values of sustainability, freedom and community coexistence There is this type of tourism in which travelers take their homes in their vehicles. These are nomadic tourists. Argentina has three itinerant tourism organizations that represent the community dedicated to this type of mobile tourism. They call themselves Ranchomóvil or Rolling Tourism Associations. These organizations work for common interests, forging a memory and celebrating the meeting through periodic meetings in different places. Its various members, in these spaces and mostly adventurers, talk and exchange experiences of explorations and learn about this new or old way of practicing this tourism and prevent and reduce risks to the associates. These people form a community sharing interests that resemble tribal behavior, like others such as motorcyclists on the roads, but with their own characteristics.

The aim of this study is to understand the different forms of organization and interest within this rolling community. Personalized surveys and interviews with leaders of the association were used to identify perceptions, analyze the experience, objectives of the organization and other problems that arise. It is observed that this form of tourism challenges the territories and societies through which these tourists travel. And in turn, these organized groups respond to an internal need of the community itself and begin to address the conflicts and implications presented by the places, spaces inhabited and traveled by the caravanners.
