This study investigates the interaction between banana farming and its derivatives and gastronomic tourism in Morretes, Paraná, highlighting the economic and cultural importance of these products for the region. Although bananas are widely cultivated in the municipality, the research identified a significant gap in the dissemination of banana derivatives as a tourist attraction, especially by public bodies and private initiatives. To understand this issue, a qualitative approach was adopted, with data collection carried out through interviews with tourists, local producers and attempts to contact the Department of Tourism.
The results indicate that tourists visit Morretes mainly for the landscape and the train ride, with barreado being the dish most associated with local cuisine. However, banana derivatives, such as candies, cachaças and sweets, are only recognized when mentioned directly, highlighting a lack of promotion and more effective marketing strategies. Producers, mostly micro-entrepreneurs and family farmers, reported difficulties in promoting and selling their products, in addition to the lack of institutional support. Furthermore, they pointed out that the valorization of these products could generate more employment opportunities and increase local income. The research concludes that, although tourism plays an essential role in the economy of Morretes, there is still a significant gap between the production of banana derivatives and their promotion as a tourist attraction.
