Throughout the history of Brazilian cinema, violence has been portrayed and marked in films of the most different styles, narratives, strands and even genres. In recent years, some filmmakers have ventured, between trial and error, in approaches to violence in genre films, especially those of horror or terror. Thus, with this research, a mapping of the most different approaches and constructions of the aesthetics of violence in about seven (7) contemporary Brazilian films that adhere to the genre was elaborated, also focusing on references attributed by the filmmakers during the narrative process. Among the specific objectives are the perception of the different types of violence currently used in Brazilian genre cinema, especially national terror. For the discussion of ideas, the theoretical contribution of the works of Susan Sontag (2003), Luís Nogueira (2002) and Noël Carroll (1999) was necessary, something that was sewn to a research method that investigated, through film analysis based on Francis Vanoye and Anne Goliot-Leté (1994), the aesthetic and narrative bias of the works, resulting in the finding of a certain standardization of violence in Brazilian genre films. It was also concluded that the Brazilian production system has a direct impact on the construction of narratives of this type, highlighting the importance of discussing the theme.
